The co-operative is named after feminist author Silvia Federici to highlight that social reproduction – tasks such as caring for each other, cleaning, cooking – is work that can be tackled collectively. In our society these kinds of tasks are seen as feminine and are therefore devalued. We hope that starting this co-operative can be a positive experiment in living together, whilst providing stability to act as a hub of activity for campaigning in the city. The function of social reproduction is to reproduce workers within capitalism, but if we can do this for ourselves, within the struggle, we become much more sustainable and powerful.
